YLB ScoreThe checks, explained › Part III, Will a stranger trust you?

There is no firewall in front of your site

Every website is probed all day by automated attacks looking for a way in. A firewall in front of the site filters most of them out before they reach it, and the free ones also make the site faster.

It is an afternoon's work, once, and it is the single change that improves the most things at the same time.

securityheaders.com and SSL Labs both show whether a known network sits in front of the site.

How to fix it

  1. Make a free account with a content network such as Cloudflare and point your domain at it.
  2. Leave the site itself alone; nothing on it changes.
The technical version, for your web person

WAF / CDN. We recognise Cloudflare, Sucuri, Akamai, Imperva and AWS from response headers and cookies. Behind one, the padlock and the headers we measure are the edge's, and the report labels them as such.

What the check reads. Header/cookie fingerprint match against a small signature table (Cloudflare, Sucuri, Akamai, Imperva/Incapsula, AWS WAF).

This is one of the checks in a YLB Score report. Every report is free, read by a person before it goes out, and written so that you can act on it without us. Ask for yours.
