Your homepage has more than one main heading, or none

A page should have one top-level heading, the way a letter has one subject line. Search engines and screen readers both use it to understand what the page is about. Two of them, or none, and the page is muttering.

This is usually a template setting, not something you wrote.

See for yourself

Ask your web person how many level-one headings the homepage has. The answer should be one.

How to fix it

  1. Keep one main heading that says what the business is.
  2. Demote the others to second-level headings; the wording can stay exactly as it is.
The technical version, for your web person

<h1>. We count <h1> elements on the homepage: exactly one earns full marks, more than one earns half, none earns nothing.

What the check reads. Count of <h1> tags: 2pts for exactly one, 1pt (no finding) for any other count>0, HIGH finding + 0 credit only when zero.
