YLB Score › The checks, explained › Part III, Will a stranger trust you?

Some social links do not go to a profile of yours

A share button lets a visitor post your page to their own feed. A link to one post shows them one post. Neither takes them to you. If the only Facebook link on your page is a share button, a stranger looking for your page gets a dialog box instead.

Point the icon at your profile and keep the share button, if you want one, as a separate thing.

Click each social icon in your footer. It should land on your own page, not a share window or one old post.

How to fix it

  1. Change each social icon's link to the profile's own address (facebook.com/yourname, not facebook.com/sharer).
  2. If you link a post, link the profile as well.
The technical version, for your web person

share and intent URLs. sharer.php, intent/tweet, shareArticle, dialog/share, an Instagram /p/ or /reel/, a tweet /status/, a YouTube /watch or a LinkedIn /posts/ are not profiles. A platform reached only that way costs this point.

What the check reads. Every platform linked has at least one profile URL; a sharer/intent/dialog URL, an Instagram post or reel, a tweet, a YouTube video or a LinkedIn post does not count as a profile, and a platform reached only that way costs this point (finding social_share_only).

This is one of the checks in a YLB Score report. Every report is free, read by a person before it goes out, and written so that you can act on it without us. Ask for yours.
